A carol or hymn is sung in procession, taking a route that ends with the choir in the center aisle, Elizabeth in the pulpit, Mary on the chancel steps, and the Narrator at the head of the choir. Following the singing of the story of the visitation, all process to the chancel altar while a second hymn or carol is sung, and there the story of the birth of Christ is read. The choir sings the “Gloria,” all read the antiphons responsively, and then process to their usual places. (Perf. time 14 minutes)
