This audio is courtesy of Canon Joseph A. Kucharski, Director of Liturgy and Music at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The performance is under the direction of John Weissrock, Dr. Kucharski’s distinguished predecessor at St. Paul’s and his early mentor. Dr. Kucharski writes: My move to the Episcopal Church at the early age of 15 happened after I watched a CBS broadcast of the Men and Boys Choir of Washington Cathedral going to Westminster Abbey to be the first American Choir to sing there. Britten’s Festival Te Deum and Jubilate Deo, plus Leo Sowerby’s Come, Risen Lord were featured during that program. I recorded the music on a 5” reel tape recorder. After seeing Washington Cathedral and hearing the choir I started to research the Episcopal Church and, given the Folk music craze just beginning in the Roman Church, I found my home at St. Paul’s. Canon Kucharski has also for many years been the editor of the invaluable annual Episcopal Musician’s Handbook.
