Notes: This mini-cantata is especially appropriate for Lent V in Year A as the first two parts / stations incorporate Ezekiel 37:1–3, 10–14 and John 11:1–6. The third part, Christ Raises Lazarus to Life, is adapted from the “Capmaker’s Play” from “The York Cycle,” ed. by J. V. Purvis. There are several vivid solo / duet parts for Jesus, Mary & Martha, and Lazarus as well as exceptionally dramatic effects for choir and all instruments. Cast: Lector/Evangelist: tenor; Jesus: baritone; Martha: alto; Mary: soprano; Lazarus: tenor. Choir, SATB. Instruments: Six handbells (3 players), suspended cymbal, tenor drum, tambourine and 3 timpani (2 players), piano or harpsichord, organ.
